The scientific name of PET plastic is polyethylene terephthalate, a milky white translucent or colorless transparent body with a 1.38g/cm³ density and large water absorption (0.6%).
Advantages and disadvantages of PET
PET has the advantages of high rigidity, high-temperature dimensional stability, high-temperature color stability, creep resistance, good surface luster, ease of color, and cost-effectiveness. In addition to the advantages, PET plastics also have significant disadvantages, such as slow crystallization at the processing mold temperature (70 to 110 ℃), poor impact properties, and susceptibility to moisture absorption.
Characteristics of modified PET
As a high-quality plastic with great recycling value, as long as the shortcomings of PET are effectively solved, the material will be able to give full play to its great market value. One of the means of solving the problem is “modification”.
- Improvement of mechanical properties: the bending strength of plastic after modification treatment reaches 200MPa.
- Improve heat resistance: the modified treatment can improve the thermal stability of the plastic so that it can maintain stable performance in high-temperature environments.
- Improve weather resistance: the modification treatment can enhance the resistance of the plastic to UV light, moisture, oxidation, and other adverse external factors.
- Enhance the cost-effectiveness: PET plastic and reinforced PET plastic are very cost-effective among engineering plastics.
- Improve the appearance: the modification treatment can make PET plastic surface lubrication, anti-static, anti-adhesion, and easy to clean.
Application of modified PET plastic
- Electrical and electronic fields: fuses, connectors, coil winding tubes, relays
- Automotive field: door handles, fog lamp brackets, mirrors, heat release holes, air conditioning vents heating coils, etc.
- Home appliance field: light head, soybean milk machine base, IH square pot coil disk, air fryer, hair straightener iron shell, etc.
- Mechanical field: gears, bearings, blades, pump housings, compressor terminal covers, etc.
